ERAS completed two major free trade agreement studies for GCC clients (GCC includes Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain) using input-output tables developed by ERAS and the GTAP macroeconomic trade model (57 sectors). The study covered all major trade partners and showed that there are substantial economic benefits from FTAs and liberalisation of trade in commodities and services. The study highlighted key sectoral impacts and strategies for maximising the benefits and minimising the costs of such negotiations.

ERAS has just released a report looking at the burgeoning opportunities for investment in the solar sector in the GCC states. The solar industry has been one of the strongest performers during the economic downturn, earning the most venture capital investment in 2009.

The GCC states have phenomenol solar resources, capable of providing a sustainable solution to the spiralling energy demand in the region. Project developers, investors, installation companies and retailers are all required to supply the potential market.

The region is also prime for solar industry manufacturing investment. Three polysilicon projects have been announced in the region, creating a competitive advantage for solar cell production in the region. Low production costs and government support for high tech industries add extra advantage.

A full outline and further information on ordering is available in the ERAS Arabia Downloads section.
