A number of ERAS consultants have a background in sustainable development, Green Building (including LEED certification), environmental impact assessment and renewables. As such, ERAS is capable of providing a wide range of support and advice in these areas. We work with project developers, architects, local authorities and environmental protection agencies. Recent projects in Environment & Sustainable Development:Green buildingGreen building attempts to integrate waste minimisation, energy efficiency, materials efficiency, sustainability and environmental integrity into the planning, construction and use of buildings. Green buildings result in cost savings in the operation of the building and higher rental value, due to their effects on worker productivity and company image. There are a number of accepted standards for green building, including LEED in the US and BREAM in the UK. ERAS has LEED-certified personnel. Environmental Impact AssessmentFor all of the feasibility studies that we undertake, environmental impact assessments are performed. These range from relatively simple assessment statements for light industrial and commercial investments to full-scale IEAs for large complex production facilities. Small-scale renewablesERAS has investigated the potential for small-scale photovoltaics, solar water heating and solar cooling in Saudi Arabia on behalf of local investors. This has involved technology appraisals, market evaluations, identification of potential technical partners and a detailed financial analysis of the payback to users. UAE national communication on climate changeERAS prepared the UAE Ministry of Energy’s national communication for climate change that was submitted to the UNFCC. The study included modelling current and future emissions of greenhouse gases and assessing the likely impact on the country’s infrastructure and ecosystems of the first stages of global warming. Jeddah waste recycling plantThis was a major market development and feasibility study for the waste management division of Asahi Group interested in developing a recycling facility in Jeddah. The objective of the study was to maximise the commercial potential of municipal waste recycling and waste management.
